Quality in Every Coil: The SCOTECH Distribution Transformer.
01 General
1.1 Project Description
75 kVA oil immersed distribution transformer was delivered to Guyana in 2024. The rated power of the transformer is 75 kVA with ONAN cooling. The primary voltage is 0.22 kV, the secondary voltage is 0.415 kV, they formed a vector group of Dyn11.
In today’s world, energy efficiency and grid intelligence are paramount. The modern distribution transformer is no longer a passive component; it is an active enabler of a sustainable energy future. Engineered with advanced materials and innovative designs, our distribution transformers minimize core and copper losses, achieving exceptional efficiency even under partial loads. This translates to significant energy savings, reduced carbon footprint, and lower operational costs. Furthermore, smart distribution transformers are now evolving to provide real-time data and capabilities essential for optimizing grid performance and integrating renewable energy sources, making them a smart investment for a smarter grid.

02 Manufacturing
2.1 Core
The 3 phase distribution transformer features a core constructed from high-grade, cold-rolled grain-oriented (CRGO) silicon steel laminations. These laminations are precisely stacked and tightly clamped to form a robust, low-loss magnetic circuit. This efficient core design minimizes eddy current and hysteresis losses, ensuring reliable performance and high energy efficiency.
2.2 Winding
![]() | The 3 phase distribution transformer utilizes concentric cylindrical winding with electrolytic copper conductors. The low-voltage (LV) winding is wound adjacent to the core, followed by the high-voltage (HV) winding, with insulating barriers between them. Both windings are carefully layered and insulated to withstand electrical, thermal, and mechanical stresses, ensuring reliable performance and a long service life. |
2.3 Tank
The3 phase distribution transformer is housed in a robust, welded steel tank designed to provide complete containment of the insulating oil and core assembly. Its construction ensures effective heat dissipation, often assisted by corrugated fins that increase the surface area for natural cooling. The tank is hermetically sealed to prevent moisture ingress and oil degradation, ensuring long-term reliability.
2.4 Final Assembly
The final assembly integrates the core and windings, which are securely clamped and dried, into the tank. After the active part is lowered into the tank, all external components-such as bushings, drain plug and oil level indicator-are fitted. The tank is then hermetically sealed, filled with purified mineral oil, and subjected to rigorous testing to ensure complete integrity, electrical performance, and operational reliability.
03 Testing
For this 75kVA oil – immersed distribution transformer, tests include measuring insulation resistance, voltage ratio and calibrating voltage vector group, winding resistance, conducting separate – source power – frequency voltage withstand test and induced voltage withstand test, as well as measuring no – load losses and no – load current, impedance voltage and load losses.
04 Packing and Shipping
4.1 Packing
| For shipment, the 3 phase distribution transformer is transported fully assembled and filled with insulating oil to minimize on-site commissioning. It is securely skid-mounted, with robust external bracing to protect the bushings and accessories. The entire unit is crated or shielded to withstand transit hazards, ensuring it arrives on-site ready for installation. | ![]() |
4.2 Shipping
![]() | This 75kVA oil-immersed distribution transformer is transported upright and secured to a flatbed truck, all external fittings are checked to be tightly sealed to prevent oil leakage during transit. Shock indicators are monitored to ensure it has not been subjected to excessive impacts. |
