Smart Distribution, Worry-Free Operation - Trust Cast Coil Dry Type Transformer in modern power systems.
01 General
1.1 Project Description
1500kVA cast coil dry-type transformers was delivered to South Africa in 2025. The rated power of the transformer is 1500 kVA with AN/AF cooling. The primary voltage is 6.6 kV with ±2*2.5% tapping range (NLTC), the secondary voltage is 0.55 kV, they formed a vector group of Dyn11.
Our Cast Coil dry-type transformers represents the pinnacle of safety, reliability, and efficiency in modern power distribution. Engineered with epoxy resin-encapsulated high-voltage coils, it is completely oil-free, making it the ideal, maintenance-lean choice for indoor installations where fire safety and environmental protection are paramount.
A key feature of this transformer is its integrated intelligent fan cooling system (WTB). This system actively monitors the operating temperature and automatically activates high-efficiency axial fans when needed. This forced-air cooling significantly boosts the transformer’s thermal capacity and increases its short-term overload capability, ensuring stable and continuous operation even under demanding or fluctuating load conditions.
Designed for versatile global applications, this unit operates with a standard power supply voltage of 220V. Its compact and robust construction, combined with the cast resin coil technology, provides exceptional resistance to moisture, dust, and corrosive environments. This makes it perfectly suited for a wide range of critical settings, including:
- Commercial & Public Buildings: Shopping malls, hospitals, airports, and high-rise complexes.
- Industrial Facilities: Manufacturing plants, production lines, and chemical processing units.
- Infrastructure & Special Projects: Subway systems, tunnels, ships, and offshore platforms.
- Renewable Energy Integration: Wind and solar power generation systems.

02 Manufacturing
2.1 Winding
| The heart of the cast coil dry-type transformers is its meticulously engineered coil system, utilizing high-conductivity copper windings that are fully encapsulated through a vacuum casting process with premium-grade epoxy resin. This advanced encapsulation forms a seamless, solid insulation body around the copper conductors, creating a monolithic, mechanically robust, and void-free structure. The epoxy resin not only provides exceptional dielectric strength and partial discharge resistance but also ensures superior thermal conductivity, effectively dissipating heat from the windings. This construction results in a coil that is highly resistant to moisture, dust, chemicals, and harsh environmental conditions, guaranteeing long-term stability, safety, and maintenance-free operation. | ![]() |
2.2 Temperature Controller
![]() | The temperature controller for cast coil dry type transformers features built-in PT100 probes in the three-phase windings to monitor real-time winding temperatures and display them cyclically on a digital screen. It offers circuit open and self-check fault alarms, plus three-stage temperature responses: automatic fan activation at the first stage, a high-temperature alarm at the second, and an overtemperature trip at the third. Additional functions include manual/auto fan control, timed fan start/stop, historical data logging and output, and it operates on a 220V power supply. |
2.3 Fans
| The cooling fans for the cast coil dry type transformer are mounted at the bottom of the unit. Their start/stop cycles are automatically regulated by the transformer’s temperature controller, which activates them based on real-time winding temperature data to boost heat dissipation. Operating on a 220V power supply and provided as one complete lot, these fans play a key role in maintaining optimal thermal conditions, preventing overheating, and ensuring the reliable, continuous performance of the transformer. | ![]() |
2.4 Nameplate
![]() | The transformer’s nameplate provides its essential technical identity. It permanently displays the manufacturer, model, serial number, and kVA rating, along with core electrical data like voltages, frequency, vector group, and impedance. Required safety warnings and certification marks (e.g., IEC) are also included, serving as a vital reference for installation, operation, and compliance throughout its service life. |
03 Testing
The Measurement of Short-Circuit Impedance and Load Loss is a critical routine test performed by short-circuiting the secondary windings and applying a reduced voltage at the rated frequency to the primary side. This test precisely determines the transformer’s equivalent impedance, a key parameter for calculating voltage regulation and prospective fault currents. Simultaneously, it measures the total load loss (primarily copper losses due to winding resistance), which is essential for verifying design efficiency, ensuring compliance with specifications, and predicting operational performance and temperature rise under load.
04 Packing and Shipping
4.1 Packing
| The packaging of cast coil dry type transformers uses moisture-proof film wrapping combined with wooden pallets or sealed wooden cases, with internal shock-absorbing padding to mitigate transit impacts. Clear shipping marks, handling warnings, and product specifications are visibly labeled on the exterior. This packaging adheres to international transportation standards, ensuring the transformer remains protected and intact during land or sea shipping. | ![]() |
4.2 Shipping
![]() | The cast coil dry type transformer is transported via sea freight under CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight) terms to the Port of Durban, where the seller bears responsibility for covering ocean freight, cargo insurance, and delivery costs to the destination port. Secured in moisture-proof, shock-absorbent packaging compliant with international maritime standards, the transformer is protected against moisture, impact, and transit damage, ensuring it arrives intact and ready for onward handling upon arrival at Durban port. |
