Energy-efficient and easy to maintain, your best power companion—three-phase pad-mounted transformers!

01 General

1.1 Project Description

500 kVA pad mounted residential transformer was delivered to South America in 2024. The rated power of the transformer is 500 kVA with ONAN cooling. The primary voltage is 34.5GRDY/19.92kV with ±2*2.5% tapping range (NLTC), the secondary voltage is 0.48/0.277kV, they formed a vector group of YNyn0, and it is a loop feed transformer. Due to the superior safety and reliability of tamper-proof pad mounted transformers, they are ideal for use in places where they may be touched by the public, or in any environment where underground cables are required.

02 Manufacturing

2.1 Core

Three-phase five-column core is an advanced transformer core design, its structure is composed of five ferromagnetic columns, three-phase columns and two common columns present a unique geometric configuration. The main advantage of this design is that it can effectively reduce hysteresis loss and eddy current loss, thereby improving the overall efficiency of the transformer.

The optimized flux path of the three-phase five-column core makes the flux distribution of the core more uniform and reduces the risk of local saturation. This not only improves the load capacity of the transformer, but also enhances its adaptability to grid fluctuations. In addition, the design reduces electromagnetic interference, helping to improve the stability and reliability of the equipment.

2.2 Winding

transformer input voltage

The coil of the pad mounted residential transformer is one of its core components, which is responsible for the transmission and conversion of electric energy. It is usually divided into high-voltage coils and low-voltage coils, both of which increase or decrease the voltage through magnetic field coupling. Coils are wound from conductive materials (such as copper or aluminum) with good electrical conductivity and heat resistance to ensure stable operation under different load conditions.

In design, the transformer coil turns ratio directly affects the voltage ratio of the transformer, that is, the ratio of the number of turns of the high voltage coil and the low voltage coil determines the relationship between the input voltage and the output voltage. In addition, the layout of the coil, the winding mode and the choice of insulation materials also have a direct impact on the performance, efficiency and heat dissipation capacity of the transformer.

2.3 Tank

The tank of the three phase pad mounted residential transformer is an important part of the transformer, which is mainly used to store insulating oil, and plays the role of cooling and protection. The tank is usually made of steel and has good strength and corrosion resistance to ensure its stability and reliability in various working environments. The insulating oil stored inside can not only effectively insulate, but also has good heat conduction performance, which can quickly take away the heat generated by the transformer during operation, so as to maintain the normal temperature of the equipment.

In design, the tank usually has multiple connectors and valves to facilitate monitoring of the oil level and temperature and performing necessary maintenance. In addition, some tanks are also equipped with gas release devices to cope with emergencies such as internal gas expansion or leakage, enhancing the safety of the transformer.

The sealing design of the tank is also crucial, which can prevent the intrusion of moisture and impurities, extend the service life of the insulating oil, and ensure the long-term stable operation of the transformer. Through reasonable tank design, not only can improve the efficiency and safety of the transformer, but also effectively reduce maintenance costs and improve the overall performance of the equipment.
