Pad Mounted Transformers: Secure Power, Streamlined Design, Superior Performance.
01 General
1.1 Project Description
2000 kVA three phase pad mounted transformer was delivered to Canada in 2025. The rated power of the transformer is 300 kVA with KNAN cooling. The high voltage is 4.16D kV with ±2*2.5% tapping range (NLTC), the low voltage is 0.6Y/0.347 kV, they formed a vector group of Dyn1.
SCOTECH’s pad mounted transformer is the go-to power solution for small businesses, residential communities, and local commercial hubs. Designed with space efficiency in mind, its compact footprint fits into tight urban lots, parking lots, and alleyways-eliminating the need for bulky overhead installations that disrupt streetscapes. The tamper-proof steel enclosure and lockable access panels ensure maximum safety, preventing unauthorized entry and reducing liability risks for property managers. With plug-and-play installation features, it cuts on-site labor time by 30% compared to traditional transformers, enabling quick power activation for new stores, apartment buildings, and community centers. Its quiet operation (≤50dB) ensures it won’t disrupt daily activities, making it a neighbor-friendly choice for dense residential areas.

02 Manufacturing
2.1 LV Bushing
| The LV bushing for pad-mounted transformer featuring a tin-plated conductive surface and horizontal installation. Key specs include 10kV power frequency dry withstand voltage, 30kV lightning impulse voltage, ≤10pC partial discharge (1.2kV), 31.25kA/2s short-time thermal current, 1250N cantilever load capacity, and ≥35mm creepage distance. Suitable for -35°C to +40°C environments, it comes with a ∅72×∅54×6 rectangular sealing ring, fits specified cabinet openings, and is fixed via welded studs, ensuring reliable low-voltage insulated connection. | ![]() |
2.2 Oil Level Gauge
![]() | The oil level gauge offers safe, intuitive, and reliable oil level indication with a longer service life compared to glass gauges. Operating under conditions of -40~80℃ ambient temperature, ≤90% humidity, and altitude ≤2000m (requiring perpendicular mounting, no sharp shakes or strong magnetic fields nearby), it consists of a float, connecting lever, holder, magnet steel, and indicator-with the holder fully separating the indicator from the float to ensure sealing. As the transformer’s oil level rises or falls due to temperature changes or other factors, the float moves correspondingly to drive the pointer for clear level indication; it features an O-ring for oil sealing, and requires no collision or stretching/bending of the connecting lever to maintain performance. |
2.3 Bushing Insert
| The 2701A4 bushing insert for pad mounted transformers, compliant with CSA standards, is a 25kV, 200A loadbreak component featuring peroxide-cured insulation, a blue vented PBT interface shield, hex-broach for torque installation, and ground connection provision. Supplied with a protective cap, lubricant, and installation instructions, it enables shielded cable connections via standard bushing wells. | ![]() |
2.4 Grounding Copper Bar
![]() | The grounding copper bar for pad-mounted transformers is a high-conductivity, corrosion-resistant component (typically tin-plated for enhanced durability) designed to safely divert fault currents to the ground, safeguarding the equipment and personnel. Engineered to match the transformer’s grounding requirements, it features a robust structure for secure bolted installation, complies with industry safety standards, and ensures reliable grounding performance in harsh outdoor pad-mounted environments. |
2.5 Parking Stand Bracket
| The parking stand bracket for a pad-mounted transformer is a robust, typically U-shaped metal support structure securely mounted on the interior sidewall of the transformer cabinet. Its primary function is to provide a safe, temporary storage and support location for a disconnected high-voltage loadbreak elbow connector (still attached to its cable). The bracket features a dedicated cradle or hook designed to hold the elbow’s insulating body securely, preventing strain on the cable and ensuring the energized stud contact or the elbow’s conductive components are properly oriented and isolated. This keeps the elbow assembly organized, protected from physical damage, moisture, and contamination while work is being performed on other sections of the equipment. | ![]() |
03 Testing
The Ratio Test for pad-mounted transformers is a critical verification procedure designed to confirm that the voltage ratio between the high-voltage and low-voltage windings aligns with design specifications. During the test, a rated-frequency voltage is applied to one winding (typically the high-voltage side), and the induced voltage on the opposite winding is measured; the actual voltage ratio is then calculated and compared against the nominal ratio, with deviations required to fall within acceptable industry or manufacturer limits. This test ensures accurate power transformation, prevents inefficient energy transfer, and validates the integrity of winding turns configuration, which is essential for the transformer’s reliable performance in distribution networks.
