01 General
1.1 Project Description
2000 kVA three phase pad mounted transformer was delivered to USA in 2025. The rated power of the transformer is 2000 kVA with KNAN cooling. The high voltage is 13.8GrdY/7.97 kV with ±2*2.5% tapping range (NLTC), the low voltage is 0.48Y/0.277 kV, they formed a vector group of YNyn0.
The pad mounted transformer is a versatile and robust electrical equipment designed to meet the diverse needs of modern power distribution networks. Installed on a concrete pad at ground level, it features a compact, enclosed design that eliminates the need for fenced enclosures, making it ideal for urban and suburban areas with limited space. This transformer comes fully equipped with a comprehensive set of premium components: FR3 natural ester insulation oil for environmental safety and extended lifespan, DOE-compliant energy-efficient design for reduced energy consumption, built-in arrester for surge protection, and static shield for enhanced insulation performance. The side-mounted gauge box offers convenient monitoring of oil level, temperature, and other critical parameters, facilitating proactive maintenance and maximizing uptime. The transformer’s exterior is finished with powder-coated white (RAL 9003) paint, providing exceptional resistance to corrosion, UV radiation, and weathering. Suitable for radial or loop-feed applications, it can adapt to various load requirements and operational scenarios, from residential neighborhoods to large commercial facilities. With its reliable performance, comprehensive configuration, and wide applicability, this pad mounted transformer is a trusted solution for efficient and safe power distribution.

02 Manufacturing
2.1 HV Bushing
| The HV bushing for pad mounted transformers refers to Chardon’s 15/25/35kV 200A class bushing insert, designed to mate with loadbreak elbows and assemble to standard bushing wells complying with ANSI/IEEE 386. It enables efficient on-site installation and replacement-requiring cleaning, lubrication with provided silicone grease, and clockwise tightening to 150-180lb-in torque-with a #14 copper ground wire for safety. Suitable for loadbreak operations, it must be installed/maintained by qualified personnel with de-energized systems and proper protective equipment, ensuring reliable high-voltage connections. | ![]() |
2.2 LV bushing support
![]() | The LV bushing for pad mounted transformers is the BFG-1/2500 resin dry-type bushing, complying with the latest GB/T 4109 and IEC 60137 standards. It has 10kV AC dry withstand voltage, 30kV lightning impulse voltage, partial discharge ≤10pC at 1.2kV, short-time thermal current of 62.5kA/2s, 2000N cantilever load capacity, and creepage distance ≥35mm. Designed for horizontal installation with a tin-plated conductive surface, it operates in -35°C to +40°C environments, comes with a ∅90×∅70×6 rectangular sealing ring, and matches the cabinet opening dimensions with 4-M12×50 welding screws. |
2.3 Oil Level Gauge
| The UHZ-01 Oil Level Gauge for pad mounted transformers is designed to indicate oil level in small-to-medium capacity oil-immersed transformer tanks, featuring safety, direct visibility, reliability, and long service life. It operates in -40~80℃ ambient temperature, ≤90% humidity, and ≤2000m altitude, requiring vertical installation free from sharp shakes and strong magnetic fields. Composed of float, connecting lever, holder, magnet steel, and indicator with a sealed structure (separating indicator from float), it prohibits collision or stretching/bending of the connecting lever, and uses an O-ring for tank sealing. | ![]() |
2.4 1''Drain Valve With 3/8'' Sampler
The 1” flanged drain valve (with 3/8” sampler) for pad mounted transformers is a ASME B1210-compliant component rated for 1.6MPa working pressure, operating at -20°C to 150°C with oil/non-corrosive liquids/inert gases. It features a handwheel for operation, flanged mounting, and an integrated 3/8” port: this valve enables safe transformer oil draining and maintenance sampling while preserving tank sealing, fitting standard pad mounted transformer configurations.
2.5 Elbow Arrester
The elbow arrester integrates a metal oxide varistor (MOV) module into a rubber elbow to provide overvoltage protection. It features peroxide-cured EPDM insulation and a semiconducting shield (complying with IEEE 386 for interface and IEEE 592 for shielding), with a #4AWG flexible copper ground lead to divert surge current and a stainless steel cap for weatherproof sealing. Designed for underground systems (e.g., pad-mounted transformer entry cabinets, vault switching devices), it offers shielded deadfront protection, extends cable life when installed at loop system open points or radial system ends, and is fully interchangeable with IEEE 386-compliant competitors’ products.
03 Testing
Pad mounted transformer tests (aligned with IEEE C57 standards) cover routine checks: winding resistance measurement, voltage ratio/phase relation verification, no-load loss/current testing, load loss/impedance assessment, insulation withstand (applied/induced voltage), insulation resistance check, and pressure leak test. These tests validate electrical performance, insulation integrity, and tank sealing, ensuring the unit meets safety and operational requirements for reliable power distribution.
