For Thriving Business Districts, The Three-Phase Pad-Mounted Transformer.
01 General
1.1 Project Description
1600 kVA three phase pad mounted transformer was delivered to USA in 2025. The rated power of the transformer is 1600 kVA with KNAN cooling. The high voltage is 12D kV with ±2*2.5% tapping range (NLTC), the low voltage is 0.48Y/0.277 kV, they formed a vector group of Dyn1.
This 3 phase transformer grounding is a high-performance, environmentally responsible electrical distribution solution designed for reliable underground-to-overhead power conversion in commercial, industrial, and residential applications.
Engineered with FR3® natural ester dielectric fluid, it delivers superior fire safety (high fire point), enhanced environmental sustainability (readily biodegradable), and extended equipment life through superior moisture management and insulation preservation. The unit meets stringent U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) energy efficiency standards, ensuring significant reductions in core and coil losses for lower total ownership cost and a reduced carbon footprint.
For enhanced system protection and durability, the transformer is equipped with integrated elbow-type surge arresters (lightning arresters), providing reliable overvoltage protection directly at the primary connections in a compact, space-saving design. Housed in a robust, tamper-resistant enclosure finished in powder-coated white (RAL 9003), the transformer offers a clean, visually neutral appearance that blends seamlessly with urban and landscaped environments while providing excellent corrosion resistance and long-lasting aesthetic appeal.
Combining advanced dielectric technology, mandated energy efficiency, integrated protection, and a durable, low-profile design, this transformer is built for safe, efficient, and reliable long-term operation.

02 Manufacturing
2.1 Core
| SCOTECH 3 phase transformer grounding feature high-grade, grain-oriented silicon steel cores engineered for ultra-low core loss and minimal magnetic flux leakage. Precision-cut laminations with advanced insulation coating reduce eddy current and hysteresis losses, ensuring exceptional energy efficiency and stable voltage output even under fluctuating load conditions. The compact, robust core design not only maximizes space utilization within the enclosure but also enhances mechanical strength to withstand outdoor environmental stresses, delivering reliable performance for residential, commercial, and industrial power distribution networks. | ![]() |
2.2 High Bushing
![]() | Pad-mounted transformer high-voltage bushings (15/25/35kV 200A) adhere to ANSI/IEEE 386 specifications, serving as key separable connectors for loadbreak elbows. Engineered for straightforward on-site assembly and maintenance, they deliver robust insulation, secure torque-based fitting, and compatibility with standard grounding practices, ensuring stable power transmission in outdoor distribution networks. |
2.3 Oil Level Gauge
| The pad-mounted transformer’s UHZ-01 oil level gauge is a safe, reliable and easy-to-read device for small/medium-capacity oil-immersed units, operating at -40~80℃, ≤90% humidity and ≤2000m altitude; it uses a float-driven magnetic indicator (sealed from the oil tank) to show real-time oil level changes, with a longer service life than glass gauges and requires perpendicular mounting without sharp shakes or strong magnetic interference. | ![]() |
2.4 Thermometer
![]() | The pad-mounted transformer’s BWS-70 thermometer is a sensitive, reliable device with a stainless steel case (long service life, sleek appearance) that indicates tank oil temperature; its bulb requires insertion ≥100mm into the medium for accuracy, demands protection from collision/bending, and needs annual checks to maintain precise readings. |
2.5 Pressure Relief Valve
| The pad-mounted transformer’s YSF series pressure relief valve protects the tank from overpressure: it auto-opens at 10 psi (customizable) to release gas until safe pressure is restored, allows manual pressure relief via its hoop, operates at 0~80℃ and <95% humidity, requires sealant for mounting, and avoids corrosion-prone environments. | ![]() |
2.6 Vacuum Pressure Gauge
![]() | The pad-mounted transformer’s YZ-70 vacuum pressure gauge monitors operation by reflecting temperature-linked pressure changes, offering selectable ranges (-0.04~0.04/-0.08~0.08MPa), ±2.5% accuracy, and M27×2 adjustable screw mounting; it operates at -40~80℃/≤80% humidity, requires perpendicular installation, and needs a 6-monthly check for reliable performance. |
2.7 Elbow Arrester
The pad-mounted transformer’s 15/25kV 200A class elbow arrester integrates a metal oxide varistor module into a peroxide-cured rubber elbow (IEEE 386-compliant), providing overvoltage protection for underground systems (transformers, vaults, etc.). It offers shielded deadfront protection, with specs like 2.55-17.5kV MCCV and 7.7-53.6kV max discharge voltage (at 10kA), plus 223-235mm-dimensioned designs for easy installation.
03 Testing
A 1600kVA 3 phase transformer grounding (model: 12D-0.48Y/0.277kV, serial number: 250904) underwent routine tests on October 22, 2025, in accordance with IEEE standards (C57.12.00-2021, C57.12.34-2022, C57.12.90-2021). Tests included winding resistance measurement (max unbalance rate 7.03%), voltage ratio test (deviation -0.07%~-0.05%), phase-relation test (vector group Dyn1), no-load loss and current measurement (1.432kW, 0.23%), load loss, impedance voltage and efficiency test (10.694kW, 5.90%, 99.52%), applied voltage test (HV 34kV/60s, LV 10kV/60s), induced voltage withstand test (24kV, 150Hz, 48s), insulation resistance measurement (2.51-3.97GΩ), and pressure leak test (20kPa, 24h). All items met acceptance criteria, with no voltage collapse or leakage observed.
