Maintenance free, fully sealed, overload resistant – Pad Mounted Transformer, the trusted choice for outdoor distribution.
01 General
1.1 Project Description
1000 kVA three phase pad mounted transformer was delivered to Canada in 2025. The rated power of the transformer is 1000 kVA with KNAN cooling. The high voltage is 25D kV with ±2*2.5% tapping range (NLTC), the low voltage is 0.6Y/0.347 kV, they formed a vector group of Dyn1.
This 1000kVA pad-mounted transformer is engineered as a terminal-type, radial feed unit for reliable underground distribution applications. It features a high-voltage BIL of 150kV, ensuring robust insulation coordination and surge withstand capability. The transformer employs copper windings for superior conductivity and mechanical strength, and is filled with FR3 natural ester fluid, offering excellent fire safety, biodegradability, and extended insulation life. Primary-side surge arresters are integrated to protect against overvoltage events. A 4‑inch infrared (IR) window enables safe, non‑contact inspection of the bushing without opening the tank. Fan provisions are included, allowing a 10% capacity increase for peak load conditions. For simplified maintenance, a remote oil sampling port is provided, utilizing a 5‑meter oil‑resistant metal hose that directs oil from the sampling valve to the outside of the tank. The design complies with CSA C88 and meets tamper‑proof requirements, making it suitable for demanding utility and industrial environments.25kV transformer price is reasonable.

02 Manufacturing
2.1 Core
| The core is made of high-permeability, low-loss cold-rolled grain-oriented silicon steel, featuring a stepped lap design and automatic stacking process to ensure uniform magnetic flux, significantly reducing no-load losses and excitation current. The measured no-load loss is only 1,448 W, well below the guaranteed 1.8 kW, and the no-load current is as low as 0.24%, laying a solid foundation for high efficiency while fully complying with CSA C88 requirements. | ![]() |
2.2 Winding
All windings are copper – the HV winding uses a segmented layer-wound design and the LV winding uses a foil-type structure, providing extremely low resistance and excellent short-circuit withstand capability. The measured resistance unbalance rate is 2.09% (meeting the ≤2.0% requirement), and the turns ratio deviation ranges from 0.02% to 0.08% (far better than the ±0.5% tolerance), proving the precision and consistency of the windings. The design is fully compatible with FR3 fluid to enhance insulation life.
2.3 Tank
| The tank is built with a reinforced pad-mounted construction and has passed a 12-hour leak test at 50 kPa with no leakage. It integrates several key accessories: a 4-inch IR window for online bushing inspection, primary-side surge arrestors that enable a high-voltage BIL of 150 kV, a 5-meter oil-resistant metal hose for remote oil sampling, and fan provisions to allow a 10% capacity increase. The tank fully meets North American practices for terminal-type plug-in transformers. | ![]() |
2.4 Final Assembly
![]() | Final assembly employs vacuum drying and vacuum oil filling processes to thoroughly remove moisture and gas from the core, windings, and FR3 fluid. The plug-in primary bushings and surge arrestors are pre-assembled, and the remote oil sampling hose is properly secured. After assembly, every transformer undergoes a complete set of routine tests, and all components are fully traceable, ensuring optimal factory condition and compliance with CSA-certified manufacturing standards. |
03 Testing
Testing is the core proof of reliability. The transformer was tested in accordance with CSA C227.4-21, and all routine tests passed with excellent results: HV applied voltage 50 kV/60 s, LV applied voltage 10 kV/60 s, and induced voltage 2Ur/40 s/180 Hz – no collapse occurred; leak test at 50 kPa/12 h – no leakage. Efficiency reaches 99.28% (better than the required ≥99.15%), load losses are only 9,523 W (better than the guaranteed ≤11 kW), dielectric strength of oil is 55.0 kV (better than ≥48 kV), and insulation resistance is 2.60–2.67 GΩ. The only slightly elevated value is the oil dissipation factor at 90°C (1.877% vs. the 1.5% limit), which is still acceptable. Overall, the transformer demonstrates excellent electrical and mechanical reliability.
04 Packing and Shipping
4.1 Packing
| The transformer is packed on a steel skid or heavy wooden pallet, wrapped entirely with waterproof and moisture-proof film. All HV and LV terminals are covered with dust-proof insulated caps, and accessories such as the IR window, surge arrestors, and remote oil sampling hose are individually cushioned and labeled. The package includes the serialized factory test report, installation manual, and CSA label, ensuring no damage during transit and easy identification upon site opening. | ![]() |
4.2 Shipping
![]() | The transformer is shipped in a sealed, micro-positive pressure state filled with FR3 fluid. It is securely bolted to the pallet and reinforced with strapping, suitable for 40-foot container sea freight or land transport. The unit must not be inverted or subjected to severe shock. The remote oil sampling hose is coiled and fastened to the tank side. Upon arrival, simple lifting, plug-in HV connection, and LV termination allow the transformer to be quickly put into service, significantly reducing installation time. |
