01 General

1.1 Project Description

50 kVA single phase pole mounted distribution transformer was delivered to Guyana in 2025. The rated power of the transformer is 50 kVA with ONAN cooling. The primary voltage is 13.8 kV with ±2*2.5% tapping range (NLTC), the secondary voltage is 0.12/0.24 kV, they formed a vector group of Ii0.

This 50 kVA single phase pole mounted distribution transformer is designed in compliance with IEEE standards, ensuring reliable performance and durability in outdoor distribution applications. It features a robust construction with essential components such as a pressure relief device to enhance safety by preventing overpressure conditions and an off-circuit tap changer for flexible voltage adjustment to accommodate varying load requirements. The transformer is equipped with eye-type terminals (eyelet bushings), facilitating secure and efficient connections to overhead lines. Its pole-mounted design optimizes space utilization while providing effective power distribution in rural, suburban, or industrial settings. Engineered for efficiency and longevity, this transformer is suitable for utility and commercial use, delivering stable power under diverse operating conditions.

02 Manufacturing

2.1 Core

The silicon steel strip is spirally wound on a CNC winding machine to form a closed rectangular or toroidal structure. Tension is carefully controlled during winding to avoid stress-induced magnetic degradation. Annealing is performed in a hydrogen atmosphere at 800~850°C to relieve mechanical stress and restore optimal magnetic permeability. One side of the core is precision-cut to allow coil insertion, with the cut surface finely ground to minimize magnetic resistance. Single-phase pole-mounted transformers with wound cores deliver superior efficiency, lower losses, and quieter operation, making them ideal for modern power distribution networks. With advancements in materials like amorphous metals, wound core transformers will play an even greater role in future smart grid systems.wound core transformers

2.2 Winding

copper foil winding

Oil-immersed single phase pole mounted distribution transformer typically adopt a low-voltage (LV) foil winding (copper foil) + high-voltage (HV) wire winding (copper wire) configuration.

• LV Winding: Layered copper foil (0.1–2mm thick) with insulating paper interleaving, providing high space factor, efficient cooling, and superior short-circuit withstand capability.

• HV Winding: Multi-layer enameled copper wire winding, reinforced with insulating paper and oil ducts for enhanced dielectric strength and tap-changing flexibility.

The windings are concentrically arranged (LV inside, HV outside) and fully immersed in transformer oil, utilizing an oil-paper insulation system for cooling and electrical isolation.

2.3 Tank

The single phase pole mounted distribution transformer tank is fabricated from cold-rolled steel plates formed into cylindrical shape by roller bending machines. The side walls are press-molded with continuous corrugated fins and precisely welded using TIG welding. The tank cover is flange-connected to the body with oil-resistant gaskets and bolted for sealing. All welds undergo kerosene penetration test and 0.05MPa air pressure leakage test. The surface treatment includes sandblasting followed by two-coat painting (epoxy primer + polyurethane topcoat) for outdoor corrosion protection.cylindrical shape transformer tank

2.4 Final Assembly

assembled active part1. Winding Assembly: Slide the high-voltage and low-voltage windings onto the core, ensuring proper insulation alignment, and secure the winding supports.

2. Electrical Connections: Solder or crimp the leads, connect the tap changer, wrap insulation materials, and fix the wiring in place.

3. Core-Coil Drying: Place the assembled active part (core and windings) into a drying oven, apply vacuum heating to remove moisture, and verify insulation resistance meets standards.

4. Tank Installation: Lift the dried active part and carefully lower it into the tank, align with positioning pins, and fasten the base bolts.

5. Accessory Installation: Mount bushings, pressure relief valve and other accessories, sealing all joints.

6. Oil Filling & Sealing: Vacuum-fill insulating oil to the specified level, check for leaks after settling, and complete final assembly.

04 Packing and Shipping

4.1 Packing

The single phase pole mounted distribution transformer is packed in a sturdy, moisture-resistant wooden crate, secured internally with bolts and cushioning foam. The spray paint cans are wrapped in anti-static bubble film and fixed to a safe location on top of or beside the transformer. The entire crate is wrapped in PVC waterproof sheeting, with heat-sealed seams and folded edges at the bottom for rainproofing. External markings include center-of-gravity symbols, rainproof icons, and flammable material warnings. Forklift slots and steel straps reinforce the base for safe transport.moisture-resistant wooden crate

4.2 Shipping

commercial invoice of transformerUnder CIF terms to Georgetown, Guyana, the seller arranges inland transport, ocean freight and insurance for pole-mounted transformers, which must be packed in shockproof and moisture-proof crates (with desiccants if needed). Because oil-filled, transformers require hazardous cargo declaration (MSDS provided). Buyer handles import clearance and inland delivery, noting Port of Georgetown’s lifting capacity and road weight limits. Transit time is 35-50 days; key documents include B/L, commercial invoice, packing list, insurance policy, and COO (e.g., Form E).
